Overview

The Director of ACM-W will oversee all ACM-W activities and shall have her roles defined by the ACM-W constitution.

• Preside at all meetings of the ACM-W Chapter and Council.
• Attend all ACM Officer Meetings and communicate with ACM.
• Ensure that all ACM-W Officers complete their duties.
• Plan ACM-W Meetings and Events
  • If the meeting will have a company: plan test run meeting with company to go over the meeting
  • Follow up with company after meeting sending thank you email and some statistics
• Assign ACM-W Officer their duties and tasks to do during the week-semester
• Renew the ACM list every school year for the national ACM website, due before fall semester
  • Email will be sent to you and follow instructions
• Onboard new Junior Officers
• Communicate with faculty advisor about events

Responsibilities

Day-to-Day

Besides the day-to-day for all officers, ACM-W Director also has the following daily responsibilities:

• Communicating with ACM Officers, ACM-W Officers, Faculty Sponsors, and Company Sponsors
• Coordinating events with ACM-W Officers, Faculty Sponsors, and Company Sponsors
• Ensure that ACM-W members have fun and overall feel welcomed! 🫶

Major Tasks

Ensure that ACM-W Officers carry out necessary duties

• Ideate and assign tasks necessary to carry out the current goals of ACM-W
  • This could mean assigning tasks such as flyer creation, food pick-up, and communication with external entities
  • Assign tasks during officer meetings and follow up with direct messages through Slack but if Slack is not ideal then instead opt for a preferred form of contact.

Communicate with ACM-W Officers

• Communicate with ACM-W officers and ensure that they have a say in all matters ACM-W related, from events to Council meetings.

Coordinate with Faculty Sponsors

• Ensure that the current ACM-W faculty sponsor is supported by ACM-W and vice versa.
  • This could mean emailing regularly to see if they need anything, or emailing the faculty sponsor in the event that ACM-W needs their support.
    • Ex: Scholarships for conferences, connecting members with academic opportunities such as research, etc.

Add Officers & Members to the ACM-W National Chapter Portal

• Submit the annual report if it was not already submitted.
• In the summer it is the previous year’s ACM-W President’s job to fill that out, but if that does not happen then it falls on the new president. Then the new/current ACM-W President must submit their annual report by August.

Helpful Tips

• ACM-W typically does workshops and socials on a biweekly basis.
• Be proactive in planning events, early planning allows more time dedicated to ensuring a smooth event.
• Advocate for yourself & ACM-W!
  • ACM-W is a phenomenal organization and deserves the best. Whatever you believe that entails, advocate for it. The purpose of ACM-W is to increase the amount of women and marginalized genders in tech and don’t be afraid to take up space and remind people of that goal.
• Have fun!
  • It is a lot of work running an organization, but it is so rewarding. If it ever becomes too much, reach out to your fellow officers as they are there to help you! Make sure to have officer socials and enjoy your year!
